Selling a load: what to know
- What a buyer asks about a load: milling or feed, and the grade, bushel weight, moisture, dockage. Put in what you know; a buyer who needs more asks, or bids subject to a sample.
- Who buys it: oat millers for milling oats; feed mills and horse and cattle feeders for feed oats.
- Grain Commission moisture limits: oats grades tough from 13.6% and damp from 17.1%. Official Grain Grading Guide.
- Bushels and tonnes: a bushel of oats is 34 lb, so a tonne is 64.84 bushels. A buyer can bid per tonne or per bushel; the farm sees it in its own unit.
- Buyers on GrainPosition’s list in and near Manitoba who say they buy oats: 3. Each gets an email when a load of it is offered within its reach. They haven’t signed up to GrainPosition: it’s the address each publishes for buying grain.
