Combyne alternative: GrainPosition and Combyne, compared honestly

Both track grain contracts, bins and your average price. They differ in how much they do, what they cost, and who owns them. Here is all three, including where Combyne is the better choice.

Written by the person building GrainPosition, so read it knowing that. Combyne's details checked against its own pages on 25 September 2026; sources at the bottom.

The most important difference first: Combyne is a finished product you can use today. GrainPosition is still in build, with a working demo and a free spreadsheet; the full app is not open to farms yet. If you need it working this harvest, that settles it.

Choose Combyne if

You want it working now. You would rather photograph a settlement than type it. You already use FieldView or other farm software you want connected. Or you work with a marketing advisor who would use Combyne's advisor product alongside you. Those are real strengths and GrainPosition does not have them.

Look at GrainPosition if

You want the grain marketing part and nothing else, set up in an evening. You would rather pay less: about half, at the founding price. Or it matters to you who holds your contract prices.

On that last point, facts rather than insinuation: Combyne was acquired by Bayer Crop Science in January 2023 and says it operates at arm's length within Bayer's digital farming business. Its Connect platform is built to exchange data with other farm tools and grain buyers' systems, which is what makes the integrations work. Whether that matters is your call. GrainPosition's position is narrower and written on its front page: your prices are not aggregated, sold or shared, and there is no second business model.

Other options worth knowing

Bushel Farm pulls contracts directly from grain buyers on the Bushel network, which covers thousands of facilities in the US and Canada. If your elevators are on it, nothing needs typing at all. Traction, built from Conservis and Granular, is aimed at large, multi-entity operations and offers settlement matching. And a well-kept spreadsheet is still a reasonable answer for a small book — there is a free one on the GrainPosition page.

See it before deciding anything

The demo runs in your browser on a sample Manitoba or Iowa farm. No account, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
