Cheapest first; bars run to $60 a tonne. A company that filed a percentage of the price, or nothing for this crop, is at the end. Source: Canadian Grain Commission, elevator charge summaries, where cleaning, drying and storage charges are too.

What these charges are

Every licensed elevator files a schedule of its charges with the Canadian Grain Commission before they take effect: elevation, cleaning, drying and storage. The figures here are the elevation charges from the Commission's summary for primary elevators. A company may charge you less than it filed, but not more. The Commission doesn't set or approve them, and a company can file a change at any time.

If a settlement has a handling or elevation charge, this is the most that company filed for that crop. Look at the footnote too: some companies file extra charges, such as for grade improvement or a special bin.

Every line of your settlement, checked

GrainPosition checks each settlement against its contract and scale tickets: grade, dockage, freight and every deduction, and writes the note to send the buyer about anything that doesn't match. Free during early access.

Questions

Can an elevator charge more than this?

No. Every licensed elevator files a schedule of its charges with the Canadian Grain Commission before they take effect. It may charge less than it filed, but not more, and it has to tell the Commission when it raises a charge. The Commission doesn't set or approve the charges.

What is the elevation charge?

What the elevator charges to receive your grain, elevate it and load it out, per tonne, by crop. On a settlement it may show as a handling or elevation charge. Cleaning, drying and storage are charged separately and are in the Commission's full file.

What do gross weight and net weight mean here?

Gross weight is the whole weight received; net weight is that weight less dockage. A charge on gross weight is paid on the dockage too.

How up to date is it?

The Commission updates its summary within five business days of a company filing a change. This page checks for a newer summary every day, and shows the date of the one it uses.

Were you paid right on your last grain settlement?

Send me a photo of the settlement, and the contract if you have it. Within a day I’ll email you back what each line is, what’s worth asking the buyer about, and any grade or payment deadline that’s still open. Free, no account.

Email me a photo of it

Send only what you’re comfortable with. I read it myself, with GrainPosition’s photo reader (Anthropic’s Claude), use it only to check your settlement, and delete it after I reply unless you ask me to set up your book. I’ll reply from hello@grainposition.com and send nothing else unless you ask. Privacy
